Steam listings: check whether you are buying a key or account access
Check the product type, region, delivery contents and seller conditions before paying for a Steam listing.

Before paying for a Steam listing, establish what will be delivered. An activation key, account access and another setup method each need different checks. A game title or low price does not explain the contents of the purchase.
Identify the product type
A key is a code for activating a particular product. The description should identify the game or edition, regional conditions and activation restrictions. Check whether the product is the base game or an add-on.
An account listing provides access details. Check the delivery contents, linked email, account history and seller conditions. Account access should not be presented as a key for your own profile.
For any other access method, ask how setup works and how long it lasts. In the Steam category, read the individual listing rather than treating the category name as a product description.
Check before paying
- Which product type is advertised, and what is included?
- Which game, edition or library does the offer provide?
- Are there region or device restrictions?
- How is it delivered, and are extra steps required?
- What are the warranty period and conditions if the advertised access fails?
Ask the seller about any missing requirement. Do not assume that a game or access can be moved to another account without confirmation of the applicable method.
Check Steam's rules
Valve explains restrictions on account sales and transfers in the Steam Subscriber Agreement and Steam's support guidance. Seller conditions do not override the service's rules.
For a key, check requirements for that specific product. For an account listing, decide beforehand whether the access method fits your needs.
Check the delivery
Open the order and compare what arrived with the description. Perform the relevant basic check and keep the order number. If an error appears, record its text and the step where it happened.
Use the order page and Interzone support for delivery questions. Keep keys and passwords out of public reviews. You can examine seller history and product reviews in the stores section before paying.
